Eating around in Rome

Quick list of my favorite Roman classics:

Carbonara

Cacio e Pepe

All’Amatriciana

Fiori di zucca (battered, fried zucchini flowers)

Carciofi alla romana (Roman-style artichokes)

Restaurants

Tonnarello is quite a popular spot for Roman classics such as carbonara, cacio e Pepe and all’Amatriciana in the restaurant hotspot of Trastevere. This restaurant itself has over a 100,000 reviews! You can either try making a reservation, or be like me an go for an early dinner or late lunch for guaranteed seating :)

Another reasonably priced restaurant in Trastevere with Roman classics. You can enjoy the alluring terrace or the rustic interior with your carbonara.

If you’re looking for a change, and want something other than Roman pastas, why not try a classic Italian pizza? Also located in Trastevere, Dar Poeta’s ambience inside or on the terrace with a pizza and a glass of vino will put you in the la dolce vita mindset.

Frankly, you can also just walk around Trastevere and discover other places for yourself. I have more on my list, just in Trastevere, but let’s venture outside this neighborhood now!

Finally, we venture outside of Trastevere. Next to the Templ eof Hadrian and mid-way between the Trevi fountain and the Pantheon, we stumbled upon this restaurant on a cosy little street. What do I love here? All the Roman classics, but with truffle. Think of a plate of cosy, cheesy cacio e pepe...with truffle. I loved their starters too, I'm a big fan of Italian salads (Italians have managed to make salads delicious?!).

There are just so many other places to go to in Rome, these are just a few that came to mind. Walk around and go where feels right to you. If you're craving pizza, I'd go to this one ranked among the 10 best pizzas in the world.

Gelato

Giolitti

Hands down the best gelato in Rome. I really have no words. It's delicious, creamy, and so flavourful. My pistachio gelato was not one of those gelatos that taste sweet, it's one that tastes like pistachio in which the sugar actually heightens the flavour of pistachio. Perhaps I'm getting too poetic...

Venchi

While some label it as "touristy", it still is one of the best gelatos I've had. Don't get intimidated by the long queues, it goes by fast, especially when you have to decide on just 2-3 flavours out of all the options they have. You can even choose to have a chocolate filling at the bottom of your cone and that's hard to say no to.

P.S. You'll find a Venchi outlet on your walk from Pantheon to the Trevi Fountain. Isn't that convenient? ;)
